Style‧Encounter Moment—Fashion Exhibition of the 3rd Subsidy Programme for Fashion Design on Sample Making

The Macao Fashion Gallery will present the “Style‧Encounter Moment—Fashion Exhibition of the 3rd Subsidy Programme for Fashion Design on Sample Making” as the grand final exhibition for this year, showcasing the selected works of the “2015 Subsidy Programme for Fashion Design on Sample Making” and sharing the creations of local fashion designers. The exhibition will showcase the works of eight (individual or teams of) beneficiaries, including Cheang Chi Tat, Peng Yun, Tam Chi Kit, Cheong Kuan Peng & Wong Ha (team), Cheang Man Cheng, Leong Iok Pui, Lo Ka Heng & Choi Wai Leng (team) and David Siu. The professional adjudicating panel selected the subsidised works through initial review and second review seriously. Each (individual or team) of the designers will showcase two selected works which include stylish menswear, men and women’s casual clothing, evening dresses, stylish womenswear, etc., in a total of 16. To promote the development of the fashion design industry in Macao, the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macau S.A.R. Government has launched the Subsidy Programme for Fashion Design on Sample Making since 2013. The programme aims to encourage innovation in local fashion design and promote fashion designers to draw up feasible and optimised business plans, encourage the industry to be involved in commercial activities or participate in local and international fashion marketing activities, thereby enhancing the popularity and market competitiveness of the local industry and carrying forward the sustainable development of the local fashion design industry. This exhibition, apart from familiarising the public with local fashion design, it also provides a platform for exchanges among designers for more cooperation opportunities, in order to help the local fashion brands to spur broader development.

The Flower Ripple Wedding – Exhibition of Macao Fashion Wedding Gowns and Flowers

In recent years, wedding industry is becoming prosperous in Macao. Many young married-to-be pursue for a fashionable and customized wedding, stirring up the development of specialized wedding clothes design and tailoring. Wedding dress is an important part in wedding reception. Each bride has her own expectation in her wedding dress style. Some prefer fairy tale princess dress; some prefer gowns that make them look elegant.      In order to show the public the local exquisite craftsmanship in wedding dress design, the Macao Fashion Gallery will invite four outstanding female designers from Macao to present an eye-catching “The Flower Ripple Wedding – Exhibition of Macao Fashion Wedding Gowns and Flowers”, together with the Macau Academy of Flower Arrangement Designer.      The four wedding dress designers participating in the exhibition are Stella Tang, Dora Un, Akina Lei and Chantelle Cheang, each of them will display two fine wedding dresses made by themselves. The eight dresses in total, whether being classically gorgeous and fashionably retained, are made of silk fabric, laces and other materials to highlight the perfect body shape of women. Every hand-made wedding dress incorporates the features of the designers. With the dedication to create the best-of-all bridal clothes for the brides-to-be, those designers select the best in the process from designing, choosing materials, cutting, sewing, fitting, choosing accessories to materializing the dress, presenting a touching love story and precious meaning behind the wedding dress.      To better demonstrate the pureness and beauty of the wedding dresses, four floral designers from the Macau Academy of Flower Arrangement Designer, namely Sara Iao, Howard Pang, Sio Kin Sang and Carla Chao, have designed various floral accessories for each wedding dress, bringing out the best in both the dresses and floral arts.

Hangzhou Intangible Cultural Heritage Conservation Project ‘Silk Painting’ Craft Exhibition – Silk Painting Art by Qiu Haisuo

China boosts a time-honored history and a deep-rooted culture. The centuries old treasure, Hang Zhou silk enjoys an enormous reputation for its delicacy, preciousness, handiness and utility. The art of silk composes several categories, respectively spinning, embroidery, printing and painting. Among them, silk hand painting refers to a decorating craft that paints directly on silk, which is of the same origin as Chinese silk painting. This is a craft challenging designer’s sense of composition and technique with colors.   Macao Fashion Gallery specially designs this “Hang Zhou Intangible Cultural Heritage Conservation Project ‘Silk Painting’ Craft Exhibition – QIU Haisuo ’s Silk Painting Art”, aiming at introducing to the public how the traditional craft silk painting is integrated with modern design, and inspiring Macao local fashion designers to do diversified creation .   Professor QIU Haisuo is from China Academy of Art and is a famous silk painting expert from Hang Zhou. The 15 suits displayed in this exhibition were hand-painted by her before sewed into clothes and dresses. The paintings are vivid and lively, playing a supporting role to tailoring, which highlights the graceful and beautiful bodies of eastern women. The works of QIU Haisuo are well known around the world, and her work, The Story of Spring won a number of awards, including the first prize in the Design Category of the 9th National Exhibition of Outstanding Works of Fine Arts, while the Peony and Phoenix Bride Gown not only embodies the concept of the wedding dresses of eastern women, but also breaks through the traditions by blending western tailoring. Chimed in with hand-painted and golden-thread-decorated peony and phoenix, this suit reveals a new style of cheongsam, featuring the new attitude on grace and dignity of women in the new era.   Macao Fashion Gallery appreciates the full support of Professor QIU for bringing the Hang Zhou non-tangible cultural heritage to Macao, giving the local citizens as well as the tourists an opportunity to learn and admire the precious treasure, and allowing the local fashion designers to feel the exquisiteness and refinement of the mixture of tradition and modern fashion through the exhibits.

This exhibition will display the works of eight individual/team-up designers selected for the latest Subsidy Programme for Fashion Design on Sample Making, including Lalaismi Wai, Esther Leong, Ella Lei, T. Wan Sio Tong & E. Wong Ha, Chantelle Cheang, Cheong Oi Leng, Vincent Cheang and Jade Leong. Out of a large number of candidates, the works of these designers were selected by a professional panel going through preliminaryand final selection processes and were granted deservedly with subsidies. The exhibits are the fine works of the designers, covering different fashion types that include stylish men’s wear, casual female outfits,formal dresses and female fashions, totally sixteen sets of them.   The Cultural Affairs Bureau of Macao launched in 2013 the”Subsidy Programme for Fashion Design on Sample Making” with the intention to boost the development and innovation of local fashion design, encourage fashion designers to create feasible and comprehensive marketing plan, foster their organization of business activities or participation in fashion promotions at home and abroad, in order to enhance their visibility and market competitiveness in the fashion sector, generating a sustainable push to the development of local fashion design industry. It is hoped that this exhibition can serve as a platform for the selected designers to showcase their works, and for the practitioners, citizens and tourists to have a better understanding of local fashion industry, supporting local fashion brands to move forward and explore development to a greater extend.
